 How to Fix VLC Your Input Can’t be Opened


1. Check if the file is corrupt.


If the file you’re trying to open with VLC is corrupt, the program may not be able to open it. To check if the file is corrupt, try playing the file with another media player. If the file opens with the other media player, then the file isn’t corrupt and the issue lies with VLC.


2. Try to open the file with an alternate version of VLC.


Sometimes, a newer version of VLC may not be able to open a file that an older version could. To find out if this is the case, try opening the file with an alternate version of VLC (e.g. the latest version of VLC).


3. Check for codecs.


VLC may not be able to open the file if it doesn’t have the necessary codecs installed. To resolve this issue, try downloading and installing the appropriate codecs for the file type.
