How To Remove Lube From Keyboard Switches

If you have accidentally spilled lubricant (lube) on your keyboard switches, you may notice that your keys are sticking or not functioning properly. Here are the steps to follow to remove lube from keyboard switches:

Disconnect your keyboard from your computer and turn it upside down to prevent any liquid from seeping further into the switches.

Use a keycap puller to remove the keycaps from the affected switches.

Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe away any excess lube from the keycaps and the surface of the keyboard.

Using a plastic pipette or a syringe, gently apply isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher) to the affected switches. Be careful not to use too much alcohol, as it can damage the keyboard's electronics.

Let the alcohol sit for a few minutes to break down the lube.

Use a clean, dry cloth or a Q-tip to gently clean the affected switches. Be sure to remove any excess alcohol from the switches to avoid any further damage to the keyboard's electronics.

Leave the keyboard to dry for at least 12 hours before reassembling it.

Once the keyboard is completely dry, reattach the keycaps to the affected switches.

By following these steps, you can effectively remove lube from your keyboard switches and restore their functionality. If you are unsure about how to do this or are uncomfortable doing it yourself, it is recommended that you seek assistance from a professional.
